The multimedia performance ‘Ostglut – Studio for Post-Reunification Stories’ makes the reunification
period and its consequences in East Germany visible and tangible. Artist Katja Tannert explores the
biographies of her family at the time of reunification and presents stories of what has been achieved.
East Germans have not only coped with a radical change in their living conditions, which for many
meant opportunities but also existential fears. They have also undergone a comprehensive transformation,
demonstrating initiative, creativity, implementation skills and resilience. In a
multimedia performance consisting of interviews, biographical scenic references and the involvement
of the audience, the production creates a living historical space on resilience and crisis management.
I wish would like to see more empathy for East German living conditions and the
recognition of existing competencies.
